Drive to Tolox for around 10am, park at the trailhead, and walk the river past the charcos — the man-made bathing pools — swimming as you go, until you reach the Charco de la Virgen and its waterfall. Then wander back into the village for a late, lazy lunch of fried fish and tapas on La Alberca's shaded terrace, with the rear tables looking over the whole town.
Drive to Tolox (about 30 min) and park at the trailhead — aim for 10am to beat heat and crowds.
